SATURDAY APRIL 5, 2008

Hello... is anybody there? I know I've been away for a while, but it's time for me to get back on this horse. What's been happening? I started a project to finish my basement last summer. It's about 2/3rds finished. The last 3rd would be my studio. If ever you're planning to do this type of reno work, hire professionals to do the mudding. I received that advice and did not heed it. (because I'm cheap/aka broke) It is now my greatest regret. I'm happy with everything except that. You thought I was going say something like "call me, I'd love to help". WRONG!!

Although I got to spend QT with my dad (the real handy man in our family), it is not my cup of tea. As dad visualized and calculated and planned, I was just wondering how long this was going to take.

Which brings me to another point. If you're doing it yourself, whatever timetable you have in your head is, triple it and you might be closer to the actual amount of time. I'm sure I'm not telling you anything new, but it's like having children, until you have one (or 3) of your own, you can't really appreciate what it's like.

Anyway, we had a good idea about how we wanted it to turn out, and for the most part it did. Getting it 2/3rds done took many twists and turns that I don't think you can foresee no matter how much you plan. At one point, I was sure that the builder decided to make this a practical joke and put in obstacles to make it fun and challenging. Great! … if you're playing a video game and you can just start over if it doesn't work out. All they did was piss me off and cause me to use language that is inappropriate for younger viewers.

Enough about that, I say as I sit in my unfinished studio. (grumble grumble). Back to the task at hand, I've tentatively booked a show May 30th in Mississauga. I'm calling it Nigel's Family & Friends Show. Technically this will be the 2nd show I'll be performing with my daughter Samantha on vocals and my son Clark on bass. We played at a New Years Eve event in Brampton. There's even an outside chance my eldest son Edward will be able to play a trumpet solo on one of the tunes.

I've been working with a wonderful friend and singer by the name of Gloria Hall and we've done a couple of shows together and are hoping to do a lot more. We're always on the same musical page and we laugh a lot, even in 3rd of the basement that isn't finished. (grumble) I just wanted to let it be known that I'm coming out of hibernation. More details to follow.,,,
